What is the Cool Sleep Club?
Many children, especially those who live in lower-income communities, lack resources and information about healthy sleep such as what sleep does for one’s body, the sufficient amount of sleep one should get, and ideas for a calm and consistent routine to do before going to sleep. According to the Center for Disease Control, “insufficient sleep for children aged 2 through 6 years affects cognitive function and behavior and may cause hyperactivity.” This data directly correlates to students’ behaviors and ability to focus in school. To assist with this issue, the Cool Sleep Club offers classes for preschoolers to first graders to educate them about the importance of sleep. Aimed at schools located in lower-income communities, the Cool Sleep Club provides an informational lesson which talks about healthy bedtime routines and the importance of sleep, teaches deep breathing exercises, reads a book about sleep, completes a bedtime routine art project, and gives each student a “goody bag” consisting of a stuffed animal.

The CSC was formed in 2022. It has partnered with seven schools in St. Louis and has presented to over 750 young students who are on the way to better sleep!
